The tune without the words

Updated 13 and 21 January 2015: Patrick Barkham on England's missing hen harriers and Bowland Beth, a poem by David Harsent (the title of this post is a poem by Emily Dickinson).

  1. Lovely. Though little hope for the chick in the harrier's talons...

  2. Hmmm yes. There is truth in chapter 3 of The Origin ("....When we reflect on this struggle, we may console ourselves with the full belief, that the war of nature is not incessant, that no fear is felt, that death is generally prompt, and that the vigorous, the healthy, and the happy survive and multiply.") Darwin probably wrong that "no fear is felt." But the fear, whether for chick or rodent, will surely be brief.
